Israelis invaded coastal belts of Goa long before the Russians started setting up their base in this state. It is considered that both of these leagues likes the north Goa coastal belt and majority of them have settled on the beach belt of Morjim to Mandrem, in North Goa where they run businesses with the support of local Goans. According to the police sources some of them are also involved into the illegal activities. Although these activities are going on for ages now but recently the union home ministry took cognizance of the increasing activities of Russians and Israelis in the state, which according to them is dangerous to the coastal security.

The areas according to the information under the influence of Russian and Israelis falls in the Mandrem constituency which belongs to our chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar.  This issue of Russian and Israelis involved in so called notorious activities was raised by Rajya Sabha member of Goa Shantaram Naik during the parliamentary consultative committee meeting on coastal security which was held last week in the city hotel in Goa and was chaired by the Union Minister Rajnath Singh.

Mr. Naik was speaking to the media following the meeting, has informed that he already made the submission to the union minister about the illegal activities carried out by the Russians and Israelis in Morjim and Mandrem coastal belt. He also requested the union minister to keep watch on these anti social elements. Mr. Naik also made it clear that he is not against the foreigners coming to Goa but he is only concerned about those whose activities are disturbing.  “The home minister has not answered all our points. But they (home ministry) have taken note of the issues. They were surprised to know about these happenings,” Naik added.

Mr. Naik also raised the issue of drug peddling in the meeting which according to him is also threat to the Goa’s security. “The drug menace is not only a question of trade but also a threat to security and it should be examined,” Naik said adding that he informed the meeting about Lamanis and Kashmiris also indulging in the drug trade. Though on the surface the stand taken by the RS Member appears to be beneficial for the coastal security but in the due course it may lead to the harassment of the foreigners coming to Goa in the season which may lead to drop in tourism business. Please do leave your comments and suggestions on this serious issue.
