Goa’s inaugural Don Bosco Futsal Cup, organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports in collaboration with the Health and Fitness Club, took place on April 8, 2024. Six teams competed: Night Hawks FC, Gladiators FC, Rising Panthers, Narcos FC, Red Devils FC, and Peaky Blinders FC. Each team consisted of a minimum of 12 players, including three female players, emphasizing gender inclusivity. The league showcased equal opportunities for both male and female players to excel on the Don Bosco Artificial Turf, with each team playing ten matches, ensuring that at least two female players were on the field on both sides for every match.

After a month of intense competition starting from February 14th, Red Devils FC emerged as the league champions, closely followed by Peaky Blinders, securing their spot in the semi-finals. The remaining teams battled it out in knockout matches, with the victors earning the last two positions in the semi-finals.

The final showdown saw Red Devils FC facing off against Peaky Blinders FC once more, reminiscent of their opening clash. This time, however, the outcome was reversed. Hanslum Furtado’s two goals propelled Red Devils to victory, while Sevon Costa’s lone goal wasn’t enough to secure the win for Peaky Blinders. Red Devils triumphed as both the Futsal League and Futsal Cup champions, with Peaky Blinders as runners-up in both competitions.

Fr. Joaquin Lobo, the College Director, extended his congratulations to the winners and all participating teams, highlighting the character-building aspects of sportsmanship.

Ryan Periera, the College Director of Sports, commended the team captains and expressed gratitude to Sports Secretary Shashi Sahani, Assistant Sports Secretary Karen Estrocio, the students of the Physical Education department, and all others who contributed to the success of the league. He pledged to elevate the standards for the next iteration of the league.

At the valedictory ceremony, Hanslum Furtado was honoured as the Man of the Match, while Prakshay Simepurushkar clinched the Golden Boot award. Hrushikesh Kinlekar was recognized as the best goalkeeper for his stellar defensive efforts.

Furthermore, Hanslum Furtado received the accolade of Best Male Player, while Pearl Almeida was celebrated as the Best Female Player.

Shashi Sahani, the Sports Secretary, expressed satisfaction with the level of participation, congratulating each team and lauding their performances. He concluded by urging everyone to prioritize fitness and well-being.

Mahadev Parab, the captain of Red Devils FC, expressed elation over their victory, attributing it to the team’s hard work. He also thanked Ryan Periera for the opportunity.

Pearl Almeida, acknowledged as the best female player and instrumental in her team’s success, credited her achievements to the collective effort. She admitted to making mistakes but emphasized learning from them and striving for continual improvement. Pearl praised the dedication of all teams and eagerly anticipated future tournaments, emphasizing their commitment to excellence.

The Futsal League served as a unifying platform, bringing together students from various departments and batches, promoting fitness and fostering teamwork.
