According to the major robbery reported in Margao, thieves managed to escape with cash containing safe from the office of Costa Spirits on the night of Wednesday, according to the complaint lodged by the company staff, the safe was containing 13 lakh rupees in cash. They also informed that there was a cupboard with 14 lakh cash, but that was intact. The office of Costa’s Spirit is located on the 2nd floor of the building in Maria Julia Complex at Fatorda.
According to the available sources, unidentified intruders managed to enter the premises by breaking open the main door with the help of drilling the hole in the rear door. The theft apparently took place post 9 pm after the all the staff left for the day. The incident came into the light only when staff returned back in the next morning and opened the office. The complaint was lodged by the manager of the firm, Joaquim Fernandes following to which police deployed the sniffing dogs into the action and conducted the panchanama.
Police sources have confirmed that the cash amount of 14.5 Lakh was intact in one of the table drawer which was an addition to the robbed cash amount. The matter is investigated by the Police Inspector C L Patil under the supervision of DySP Dhanraj Govekar. The Police informed that the fingerprint experts have managed to recover some impressions from the site and further investigation is in progress. Margao police have registered the offence under the sections of 457 for trespassing and house breaking and section 380 for theft of IPC against the unknown persons.
