A unique cleanliness drive, initiated by the villagers of a village situated in north Goa called Thivim will be a good lesson to the government authorities who are unable to perform their duties efficiently. THIVIM, a beautiful tiny village situated in the North Goa was once covered with the greenery on both sides, and small but clean roads but now it looks dirty beyond imagination with garbage dumps and this transformation has taken place due to the rampant developments and urbanization of the villages in Goa.

Here is the piece of an article that was published on the Facebook under the title “Thivim Cleanliness Drive”

On 17th June 2017, we took up the task of cleaning 2 sites that were turning up to be garbage dumping sites in Tivim. On 15th June 2017 between 7:00 am to 8:45 am we managed to video graph people throwing garbage on the roads in Tivim Madel main road proceeding to Akoi (outside Faj Housing Colony). On 16th June we lodged the complaint regarding the same with the Mapusa Police Inspector and made copies of various departments including the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi.

On 17th June 2017 at early hours we received a call from a friend informing us that some government employees have started cleaning the same garbage spot that we had video-graphed and complained about and so we immediately rushed to the spot and inquired as to why garbage was not collected before our complaint? and to our surprise, we were informed that they were asked by their superiors to rush to the spot n clean it as a complaint was filed.

We started working with them as we had already planned in advance to have a cleanliness drive in Tivim the same day with our NGO members and were successful in our mission.

During our drives, we encountered lots of hardships and heartbreaking moments that we managed to video graph.

HERE IS A MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE OF GOA

  1. Please don’t throw garbage on roads/in the open but collect it and give it to your panchayat so that it can be properly disposed of.
  2. If u see anyone throwing garbage on roads/in the open please video graph them and file a complaint with the police station and then contact us. We keep our house clean same way please keep our surrounding clean.

We have done our part, what about you? Hope this post helps someone get inspired.
