Panaji Ribandar causeway is an accident-prone zone due to the narrow lane. Everyone wants to overtake to reach first, and in the bargain accidents take place. The incident that happened on Monday seems to be the similar case of rash and negligent driving. Apparently, both the parties are blaming each other for the accident and in the bargain, one life is lost.
According to the sources, the scooter rider was proceeding towards Ribalder, and WagonR which was traveling in the opposite direction had a head-on collision resulting in the instant death of Pillion rider Rohan Parab and the rider Suraj Naik was seriously injured in this accident.
According to the police reports, the impact of the collision was so severe that the pillion rider was flung into the Mandovi river after the impact, and died. According to the sources, the rider also fell into the water but he was rescued by the people but the pillion rider was untraceable. His body was recovered by the fire personnel almost after an hour of an accident, said the sources.
Meanwhile, the WagonR driver is making the claims that it was the complete mistake of the two-wheeler rider and that he tried to save him but could avoid the impact. According to the police reports, the car was proceeding towards Panaji while the two-wheeler was going to Ribandar, and if you take a look at the images of an accident, it appears like the car went into the wrong direction, but now everything will depend on the direction of the police investigations in this case.
Meanwhile, the police sources have said that they have sent the body of a deceased to GMC for the postmortem to ascertain the actual cause of a death. The two-wheeler rider Suraj Naik (30) suffered injuries and was shifted to the GMC. Parab and Naik both are from Corlim, the police said.
The accident occurred at around 3.10 pm. Referring to the accident scene, the police said that the position of the car was towards the extreme right side of the road. The car was driven by Sunildutt Fadte (55), a resident of Tariwada Marcel and an offense is being registered against him, the police said.
There is a doubt that most of the accidents take place due to the rash and negligent driving and people lack the patience which is the major reason behind all the road accidents. You may reach little late but it is till better than not reaching the destination. Remember, better late than never and if you follow this policy may be many lives could get saved in the future.
