The Pernem police have told the media that they will produce the accused in front of the magistrate for the remand. “James D’Souza has surrendered before Judicial Magistrate First Class in Pernem this morning. We were given his custody at noon,” inspector Sanjay Dalvi attached to Pernem police station, told PTI. “We will be producing him before the court again to get the remand,” he added.

The complaint of rape of a rape was filed with Pernem police on 28th April by the victim with the allegation that James entered her room with the help of a master key of the room and raped her at 4.30 AM while she was asleep.

Goa tourism minister Dilip Parulekar had on Monday said police’s failure to nab the accused was a shame for the state which will project a negative image in the tourism circle. He had also said that he would be writing to Home department asking the police to expedite the investigations.
