It is the known fact that most of the nuisance in the city traffic is created by the heavy commercial vehicles and the big buses entering into the city, Panaji is already highly saturated city in Goa after the Margao which hardly has a place even for small vehicle parkings, and in such situation one can only imagine the consequences of big vehicles entering the city limits. To avoid any further inconvenience to the already lodged traffic in the town the CCP have decided to deter the traffic of heavy vehicles in the city during the day between 7am to 9pm.
According to the news published in the local daily “In light of the ban imposed by the North Goa district magistrate preventing heavy vehicles from entering the city, the corporation of the city of Panaji has decided to erect sign boards across the city to ensure that such vehicles especially wide-bodied buses and trucks refrain from entering the city and blocking traffic, deputy commissioner Sudhir Kerkar said. CCP will erect signboards near Patto Bridge, at Four Pillars area, at Campal and near St Inez junction”.
The following notice issued by the North Goa DM and the ban will remain effective on the following locations, Patto bridge Zone, Four Pillar Area, Campal & St. Inez Junction. This ban is applicable to all the heavy vehicles but the vehicles carrying the essential commodities into the city will be banned for the limited period of the school rush hours.
According to the sources from the traffic cell the lack of proper signage system in the city is the reason behind the jamming of the traffic due to entry of tourist buses and interstate buses into the city. The bus drivers are not unable to find out as why they have been pulled up by the cops. Let’s hope that the law would be enforced in a proper manner on the big vehicles to avoid the frequent traffic jam in the city by installing the proper signage system in the city.
