Aam Admi Party is ruling in Delhi and one of their MLA Manoj Kumar was arrested by the Delhi Police on Thursday in connection with a case of alleged cheating and land grabbing and this supposed to the second arrest of the party lawmaker in Delhi within a month. No doubt that this is an embarrassing situation for the AAP government in Delhi as their MLAs are getting arrested in the criminal activities, Aam Admi Party has created the image of “CLEAN SARKAR” in the capital city of India and that was their USP in the last assembly election. People had elected them to the power to curb the corruption in Delhi.
The arrested MLA of AAP from Kondli in East Delhi was interrogated by the New Ashok Vihar police in connection with the case and later put under arrest. “We have arrested him in a case of cheating. The case was registered in New Ashok Vihar Police station,” Joint Commissioner of Police, Eastern Range, Sanjay Beniwal said. The police informed that the MLA has been charged under the sections 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine forged document, 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC. This is the second arrest so far from AAP law makers; the first was the former Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar who was arrested under the charges of possessing fake degrees which led to the resignation of Mr. Tomar from the cabinet and has been sent to Judicial Custody.
According to the investigation officers the case of cheating against the MLA Manoj Kumar was registered 1 year back “This is an old matter related to land fraud,” Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi said. This case was registered against him on the complaint of his business partner Vinod to whom Mr. Kumar has allegedly duped to the tune of Rs. 6 lakhs. Mr. Vinod has alleged in his complaint that Mr. Kumar used to work as property dealer before joining the politics. He further claimed that he was Manoj’s business partner and had given Rs six lakh to him to purchase a plot in November 2012 but he did not repay the amount.
The Kumar has been sent to the police custody by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saurabh Pratap Singh till July 11 after the investigation agency informed that the recoveries were to be made from him. The police sought seven days custody of Kumar saying he has to be interrogated and several recoveries, include documents, money and stamps have to be recovered from him.
Meanwhile the AAP on Thursday criticized the action of the centre over the arrest of its MLA Manoj Kumar alleging that Delhi police was used by the BJP as political weapon against the AAP and they are prepared to face it. Attacking the BJP, the party said there have been so many deaths in the Vyapam scam and still there has been no arrest here as the police are showing promptness in arresting AAP leaders. “The case pertains to February 2014. Since then there has been no investigation, no summons. This is nothing but vindictiveness. The police are being used as a political weapon against us and we are ready for it,” said AAP spokesperson Deepak Bajpai.
There may be more arrest of AAP MLAs as it is taking the shape of political war between the government in the centre and in the capital. Let’s wait and watch the next step taken by the AAP to counter the alleged attack of BJP. We can only write our suggestions and comments as an effort from our side to highlight the issue.
