There seems to be no respite from road accidents in Goa. Another road accident claims the life of a 59-Year-Old man from Curca Raia. The road leading towards Vasco from Sancoale has become an accident-prone zone due to the increase in traffic and rash driving.

According to the reports, on Thursday afternoon, a 59-year-old man from Cura-Raia in Salcete died in a road mishap on the highway near the Bharat Petrol Pump at Upasnagar –Sancoale.

According to Verna Police Inspector Sandesh Chodankar, the accident took place as a truck (MH-04-GR-9785) driven by Manoj Verma (31), of Ashrafpur, Uttar Pradesh, was proceeding from Birla Cross junction towards the Queeny Circle.

PI Chodankar stated that the driver, just as he reached the near the Bharat Petrol Pump at Upasnagar, he suddenly began driving his truck on the other side of the road, moving from Queeny junction towards Birla junction to proceed towards Bharat Petrol Pump.

The victim, Agnelo Pereira (59), was riding a scooter (GA-08-S-5246), and was unaware that the truck would come in the middle of the road and he suddenly applied brakes.

PI Chodankar said that due to the wet surface; Pereira skidded, which made him lose control of the scooter and he banged into the truck. He succumbed to injuries sustained in the mishap.

Verna Police have registered an offense under Section 279, 304-A of IPC against the truck driver and the case is being investigated by Verna PSI Kiran Naik under the supervision of PI Chodankar.

The government should look into cases of rash driving so as to avoid such mishaps in the future.
