Crime against a woman is getting rampant in Goa with every day at least one case of outraging the modesty of the woman. Earlier Goa was considered to be the safest place for the woman compared to other states in India, but now can we claim that Goa is safe? Few days back there was an incident of the rape case in Anjuna and now it is 12th STD school girl who was raped by the 32-year-old Chandor resident. According to the news published by the local daily, Joaquim Peixeto, a resident of Chandor Goa was finally nabbed by the Goa Police on Saturday for raping the 12th class student from salcete higher secondary school.

Joaquim was absconding since October 7 after committing the crime. The police were in search of the culprit and finally, Maina – Curtorim police managed to lay down the trap and caught him. After his arrest police took him to the crime site where he allegedly raped the victim on 7th October 2015. According to the sources, the accused Joaquim is married having the six-year-old child and his wife is apparently working abroad and he stays alone at Chandor.

It may be recalled that on October 7th the victim girl was waiting for the bus to reach the school when the alleged accused came in his swift card and offered the lift to drop her near the school, but instead he took her to a remote place and sexually assaulted her. The police sources also informed that before dropping her back to the school the accused assaulted and abused her.

The police sources have informed that the accused will be taken for the medical examination and will be produced in front of JMFC for the remand.  Police have already seized the Maruti Swift Desire car used in the crime by the accused in which he took the victim girl to the place where he allegedly raped her. Police also said that the victim girl was forcibly raped by the Joaquim after allegedly abusing and assaulting her. The time of the incident was between 12.30pm to 2.30pm on Wednesday 7th October.

According to the police, the accused is booked under sections 323, 504 and 376 of IPC. The senior police officer has claimed that they will record the statement of the accused which will follow by his interrogation to get the more details of the incident.

When the news of 20-year-old girl’s rape was published in this media people had commented on the issue of Goan and no Goan. There were claims that if it is the rape case then it has to be a non goan involved in it. We would like to bring to your notice that it is not the issue from where the person is as far as all are the human being with similar instincts. This seems like the challenging subject for those people. Please do leave your comments and suggestions on this serious subject.
