With the number of rape cases increased in the country still this topic is counted in just another filed case in the police station. On one hand people are demanding for justice and by the time the culprit is put behind bars another one comes up. On one end the topics like women empowerments are taken on long time discussions and on the other end on every other day the number of cases registered under exploitation of women is increasing to heights. One such case has come up in kerala where Christian priest has sentenced to 40yrs in prison for repeatedly raping a 12-year-old girl at the church where he worked.
.The 37-year-old Sanil K. James was a pastor of the Salvation Army Church in Peechi, was convicted under the section 376 (2) f of IPC, and sections 4 and 5 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, read with Section 6 of the same Act of raping and sexually assaulting the girl at a Salvation Army church in Kerala’s Thrissur in 2014. This brutal incident happened when the victim had gone to the pastor’s residence to give out herbal medicine for treating his child. When judge recalled in his order he said, “the girl and her siblings were with the child of the convict, when he with evil motive to distract other children switched on TV and allowed them to watch shows. Convict then took the victim to the adjacent room and closed the doors to commit the crime.”
