Goa bags ‘Wellness Destination of the Year’ Award at IITM, Chennai

Panaji, July  20, 2015: Goa Tourism has  bagged  the  prestigious  ‘Wellness Destination of the Year’  award at the India  International  Travel Mart (IITM) 2015 which took place over three days in Chennai (July 17-19, 2015). The award was presented to Goa Tourism officials Mr. Armando Duarte, DGM, GTDC and Mr. Laxmikant Vaigankar, DGM, GTDC at the hands of Mr. Rohit Hangal, Director, Sphere Travel Media & Exhibitions Pvt. Ltd. This was the 82nd edition of IITM (India International Travel Mart) organised at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam.

Goa’s stall at IITM Chennai received an overwhelming response and a large number of travel and tour agencies visited the stall… The Goa stall,   decked up in classic Goan style with 3D detailing and customized lighting, depicting the contrasts of Goa in line with Goa’s brand strategy,  was a massive draw for visitors on all the 3 days, marking an excellent response from both the trade and general public. A Goa evening was also organised at the Chennai Deluxe Hotel for select local travel operators. The evening consisted of a presentation on Goa, screening of a film on Goa, entertainment performance and authentic dinner, followed by informal interaction with tourism officials, offering Chennai a true flavour of Goa.

The Hon’ble Minister  for  Tourism, Shri Dilip Parulekar said, “ This  is   another well deserved  award for  Goa  Tourism which is  rightly  known  as  a Wellness  Destination par excellence.  Goa has  all  the  facilities  and  facets  that is giving it the   recognition  as a leading  destination for  Wellness tourism both  in the  country  and  internationally.”

With organizations and tourism boards from over 15 Indian states, IITM showcases a variety of destinations from different spheres such as pilgrimages, adventures, culture & heritage, beaches, wellness, hills and many more. The participants include Travel agents & Tour Operators, DMC, Hotels & Resorts, National Tourist Organizations, Cruises, Airlines, Online Travel Portals etc. Tamil Nadu was the host state for the event. Other states being represented included Goa, Kerala, Delhi, Assam, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and many more.
