The Department of Tourism, Govt. of Goa on Tuesday has issued ‘Stop Notices’ to 11 beach shacks at Utorda/Majorda directing for stoppage of operations with immediate effect. The orders were issued today following directions from the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) and Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA).
The Department of Tourism, in a press statement issued today, disclosed that joint inspections conducted by officials of the Department of Tourism, GSPCB and GCZMA had revealed violations under the Environment protection Act and Tourism Policy for erection of temporary seasonal structures 2013-16.
A common violation noted by the authorities was of discharge kitchen and sewerage waste in to open pit dug in the sand. The GSPCB had also issued directions to the erring beach shacks to rectify the defects within a period of 7 days. The GCZMA has directed the Department of Tourism to take immediate action to stop the activities of the beach shacks till the time the defects are rectified.
The Deputy Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, Shri Arvind Khutkar said that the shacks have to comply with the notices and directions given therein within seven days, failing which further action would be initiated.
