In a yet another dreadful incident, a 65-year-old lady from Madhegal, Kakoda-Curchorem-Goa, was found murdered on Friday morning. Her body was found lying in the bed in mysterious condition.Police suspect that deceased Shobha Arvind Karmali was strangulated as she was alone in the house located near the Curchorem-Sanguem road at Kokoda. [su_expand more_text=”READ MORE” less_text=” ” height=”0″ hide_less=”yes” link_style=”button” link_align=”center”]Shobha, who would never open the door for any unknown person, was possibly sitting in the hall keeping the doors of the bungalow open.  Her husband had left the home at about 7.15 am for work. At about 9 am Shobha called up her husband asking him to get fish from the market. According to the sources, the intruders are believed to have pounced upon the lady and placed brown packing tape on her mouth to keep her from shouting.

As per the information was given to the Police, their maid entered the house through the front door as the back door, which she usually enters through, was locked. When she entered the house, she saw the woman on the floor with tape packing tape around her mouth. She immediately informed the relatives living nearby who in turn called the doctor who declared her dead.

The Churcorem police, who rushed to the murder site, found that the accused absconded with cash amounting to Rs 1.20 lakh and one LCD TV set. However, the gold ornaments worn by Shobha were not touched by the robbers.

South Goa SP Shekhar Prabhudessai, Curchorem PI Ravindra Desai, and Quepem DYSP Sammy Tavares visited the spot. According to the sources, Tavares said the police are investigating all angles. Later sniffer dogs and finger print experts were pressed into service and after the inquest panchanama, the body was sent to GMC, Bambolim for post-mortem.

Local MLA Nilesh Cabral, who visited the site, said police should inquire details of the tenants. Adding to that he also said that if the case is not solved at the earliest, it will be handed over to higher authorities.

According to Dr. Atchut Kudchadkar, who was the family doctor said that Shobha was a heart patient but death was caused due to strangulation as the tape was tied tightly around her neck.
