Normally during the end of December hundreds and thousands of tourists from all over India flock to Goa to celebrate the New year. Most of them travel in their own vehicles or in a hired buses. The fights erupting on the petty issue is not a new story in the state, as most of the tourists are always under the influence of liquor. This Incident took place during the new years wherein a group of 15 tourers hailing from Telangana attacked the staff and Manager of a city-based hotel in Calangute.

According to the reports, Calangute police arrested 15 persons from Telangana for assaulting four persons, including a hotel manager and a room boy, in Calangute, at around 8 pm on Monday. According to the Calangute Police Station In-charge, Jivba Dalvi, initially all the 15 accused had been booked for the Attempt to Murder but, later on, they have been booked for the murder. 

Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi identified the victims as Remy Rebello (room boy), Abhilash Patil (manager), Raju and Jayesh Bhandari (deceased). The assault reportedly occurred outside the Jude Guest House in Tivaivado Calangute. Jayesh Bhandari, one of the four injured victims, died at Goa Medical College and Hospital on Thursday, said inspector Jivba Dalvi. The tourists, earlier booked for `attempt to murder’, are now facing the charge of murder, he said.            

All the 15 accused are lodged at the central jail at Colvale following their arrest in connection with the incident which took place on the night of January 1. The Calangute Police is in process of approaching the court and seek the custody of all the accused for further investigation with the murder charge added to the first information report, he said. Police have also seized the mini-bus in which the accused traveled to Goa.
