AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) is making waves in Goa with the announcement of their first list of four candidates for the forthcoming polls, but they haven’t decided the candidate that will be projected as the CM face in Goa. But the recent development at a party level meeting in the city has revealed the name of Dr. Oscar Rebello, 48-year-old M.D. who has been recommended to high command as CM face of Goa. According to the party sources in Goa, what caught the attention of a high command including the Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is Dr. Rebello’s capacity of mass mobilization in the state.
Although the party unit has recommended the name of Doctor Rebello but he is in favour of continuing as the simple volunteer for the party since according to him it would be very difficult for him to deal with the election campaign together with his medical practice.
According to the sources, the reluctance of Mr. Rebello does not change the inclination of Party hierarchy including the AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and National secretary Pankaj Gupta who is also the in-charge of Goa towards the appointment of Dr. Rebello.
It may be recalled that during the recent interaction with the media in Goa, Dr. Oscar Rebello had clarified that he himself would prefer to stay away from the politics and continues to serve the party as a volunteer since it would be difficult for him to play the two roles (Candidate and Doctor) at the same time.
The sources have further revealed that the state party cadre did not stay away from projecting him as the most credible, honest and most preferred candidate across all the 40 constituencies in Goa. “He is our best chance in the polls, Dr. Rebello has been one of the earliest members of AAP in the state, he has clarity of thoughts and most popular face, it would be nice if he leads the poll as the CM candidate,” said Valmiki Naik, AAP Goa Secretary, who will be contesting the election from Panaji Constituency.
The AAP Goa unit sources said that Dr. Rebello has the tag of Mr. Clean associated with him that makes him the most promising CM candidate for AAP in Goa. Here the most surprising fact is that despite the inclination of the party high command towards the Dr. Rebello for the CM candidate his name was not featured in the recently announced list of the candidates by AAP high command.
Since two AAP candidates belong to the same constituency and the name of one has been announced in the first list it is difficult to guess where the second candidate will be going to contest from and why the party is delaying the announcement of his name.
