POLICE FOUND THE MARKS OF ASSAULT ON THE BODY OF VICTIM DURING HER MEDICAL EXAMINATION. ACCORDING TO VICTIM, EARLIER SHE HAD BEEN MENTALLY HARASSED BY THE HOBLE FAMILY FOR THE DOWRY, AND NOW THEY ALSO STARTED PHYSICALLY TORTURING HER….
The case of dowry is a regular affair in our country, but Goa is has remained aloof from such malpractices, but the recent case of harassment, of a victim, for the dowry, has brought the embarrassment to Goa’s status, and the involvement of a ruling party’s vice president into this incident has made the issue more serious.
The family of BJP vice president Anil Hoble was summoned to the Panaji police staton for the interrogation in the harassment and dowry case filed by his daughter in law’s family. The case of harassment came into the light following the intervention of Social Activist and Senior Lawyer Advocate Aires Rodrigues.
After the complaint lodged by the family of the victim, the Panaji police woman’s wing swung into the action and brought the Hoble family into the police station for the interrogation purpose. But at the police station, the Hoble family denied allegations calling it politically motivated.
The police did the medical examination of a victim, and in that, it has been found that the victim was tortured physically as several bruises marks were found on her body. The images released in the media makes it more clear.
Shweta Hoble’s Mother Suchitra Shirodkar had lodged the complaint at Panaji police station regarding the harassment of her Daughter by the Hoble family. Taking immediate action on the complaint, the Panaji police Women’s wing went to Hoble’s place and brought the family members including the victim Shweta Hoble to the police station, said the sources.
In her statement before the investigation officer, the victim Shweta Hoble told that Anil Hoble and his family had been demanding the money from her since her marriage in the year 2009. She also told the IO that the Hoble family has been harassing her mentally and physically for several years.
Based on the statement given by the victim Shweta Hoble, the Panaji police have registered a FIR against Mr. Anil Hoble, his wife Sandhya Hoble and his son Milind Hoble.
Meanwhile, the lawyer of Victim had told the media that, they have filed a complaint in the Panaji police station against the Hoble family for the physical and mental harassment of Shweta by the Hoble family.
“We have filed the complaint against the Goa BJP Vice President Anil Hoble for having physically assaulted his daughter in law, and over the years having continually demanded extra dowry money from victim’s parents,” said Adv. Aires Rodrigues adding that “Police have booked a case against Mr. Anil Hoble, his wife Sandhya Hoble, and the son Milind Hoble under the following sections, i.e. Section 498A, 323, 506 to be read with section 34, and sections 3 & 4 of the Dowry Prohibition act.”
Mr. Aires said that all the offenses are non-bailable, and all of them (Hoble Family) will have to be arrested by the police. “We are moving the intervention application in the court, in case Anil Hoble and his family moves for an anticipatory bail,” he said adding that He will strongly oppose the anticipatory bail of Anil Hoble and his family members.
Meanwhile, the lawyer of Mr. Hoble, Adv. Amit Palekar told the media that once the complaint has been lodged the FIR is necessary, but the arrest is not. “There is a supreme court guideline that in such cases the arrest is not required, and police are competent to investigate the matter,” said Adv. Palekar adding that “It is very unfortunate that the domestic matter has reached this stage, and I am sure that it will get resolved in two days time.” However Adv. Palekar denied the existence of any political motive behind this case saying “It is the internal issue of two families, and I don’t think that anyone considering to take up this as a political tool to obtain any political mileage.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Anil Hoble called it as his internal family matter, and it has been politically motivated by the Advocate Aires Rodrigues. “Advocate Aires has inflated this issue politically. There is no harassment, and nothing has happened. It is our family matter which can be easily solved,” said Hoble. But when media asked him about the bruises marks on the victim’s face and neck, Mr. Hoble instead of providing the satisfactory answers, started asking the media people “Are there any injuries? Then I am not aware of it, and if at all the injury marks are there then it must have been done by her family. Her mother might have done those injuries or her father and sister might have been involved in it,” alleged Hoble adding that he is not aware of any such injury marks.
The victim’s mother told the media that they (Hoble Family) have been harassing them right from the beginning. “They have been demanding the dowry right from the beginning, and they started harassing her mentally, but recently they started her physical torture. They told her to go out of the house, and they called on my phone asking me to take my daughter back,” she said adding that “We have just arrived in Goa from Mumbai.”
The parents of the victim told the media that all the allegations made by Hoble on their lawyer and on them, are baseless. “The complaint is lodged by us and not by Aires. It is the question of our daughter’s life. We are tolerating these people (Hoble Family) for so many years, and recently we gave them a car when they placed a demand before us,” said Victim’s Mother.
The matter is presently before the Panaji police, and according to the sources, they have not made any arrests as yet. The Hoble family who was called to the police station have been released by police in the evening. Please do leave your views on this serious issue.
