DEADLY ACCIDENT AT VASCO NEAR MES COLLEGE, A SPEEDING CAR RAMMED INTO THE MOTORBIKES INJURING TWO PEOPLE

THE MES COLLAGE JUNCTION IS SUPPOSE TO BE ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS ACCIDENT PRONE ZONE PLACE IN GOA, AND DESPITE REGULAR ACCIDENTS TAKING PLACE ON THIS ROAD, THE STATE GOVERNMENT AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES SEEMS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE SOURCES REVEALED THAT THE PEOPLE OF VASCO HAD BEEN DEMANDING THE NEED OF A TRAFFIC SIGNAL AND DEPLOYMENT OF TRAFFIC POLICE ON THAT JUNCTION. BUT, TILL DATE NOTHING REALLY HAD BEEN DONE….

This is not the first incident of a fatal accident on this high accident prone junction. There are dozens of accidents have taken place at this location during the recent period of time. The reason behind constant occurrences of an accident on this road is the sharp turn, and existence of a college in this vicinity, which makes it one of the busiest street.

In one such incident that took place on a Thursday afternoon, a speeding car which was proceeding towards the Vasco had rammed into Motorcycles on the road injuring two people. According to the sources, the Verna car was speeding on the road and when it reached MES Junction, the driver supposes to have lost control over the vehicle and dashed against the motorcycles. One of the two motorcycles involved in this accidents was said to have been parked on the roadside.

The impact of the accident was so severe, that after hitting bikes, the car turned turtle. Subsequent to the accident a large number of the crowd gathered on the road and they blocked the National Highway NH17B. The Verna car (Brand New car without the Registration plate) was on its way to Vasco from Verna first collided with the Pulsar motorcycle while trying to negotiate the sharp turn at the junction, said the sources.

The sources have also revealed that a two-wheeler rider had parked his bike and gone to the ATM at the junction. The injured were shifted to a hospital, and residents of the locality blocked the highway, creating traffic massive traffic jam. They demanded immediate action and assurance to make the junction an accident-free zone. They also insisted on the need of a traffic police to be deployed at the junction. 

The sources said that mob became uncontrollable, and Verna police had to intervene to disburse the crowd and bring the situation under control, said the sources.

Meanwhile the Sarpanch of the Sancole panchayat Mr. Girish Pillai arrived at the accident spot and tried to pacify the errant mob. He assured the mob that he will look into the matter as soon as possible.

The Verna police cleared the traffic jam following the assurance from Sarpanch and timely intervene from Police. The crowd dispersed and the road was cleared for traffic. The eyewitness said that a big tragedy was averted as not many students were there on the road when the accident took place.

The vigilant citizens of this area have been demanding the need for a traffic signal and traffic police to reduce the number of accidents.      

In the report published by the local daily Herald, the article was published under the title ‘Accident Prone Zone Near MES College’ claims that the MES college is in very pathetic condition. The vehicles are parked on either side of the road in highly irresponsible manner thereby forcing the students and pedestrians to walk in the middle of the road. This is the major cause of road accidents as the pedestrians block the way.
