IN THIS ONE OF THE BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT WHICH CAME UP FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF TWO YOUTH FROM KERALA AND TAMIL NADU AT ANJUNA SHACK DUE TO THE OVERDOSE OF A DRUG CALLED ECSTASY, THE OWNER OF CULRIES EDWIN NUNES HAD BEEN ARRESTED BY THE GOA POLICE UNDER THE NDPS ACT. ACCORDING TO THE REPORTS, THE WAITERS OF A GOA’S MOST POPULAR SHACK AND PARTY PLACE ‘CURLIES’ FOUND IN POSSESSION OF THE NARCOTICS SUBSTANCES.

Following the death of two tourists in Anjuna on Sunday early morning the Goa police swung into action and started working towards cracking down the drug related cases on a priority basis. The North Goa SP Ms. Chandan Chaudhary has been on the forefront of this operations, and within 48 hours, Anjuna police, under the guidance of an SP Ms. Chaudhary, rounded up five youth from famous beach shack Curlies. They have also arrested the operator of club NYX Rohan Shetty under the NPDS Act, said the sources. 

The waiters serving at the restaurant of a beach shack “Curlies” were found in possession of drugs when they were apprehended by the local police. While the customers of the Club NYX were found in possession of a narcotics substances, said the sources. The Curlies is one of the most famous beach shack situated on the Anjuna beach and run by Goan Mr. Edwin Nunes. There is a report on No one touches Curlie’s in the Republic of Anjuna , and it remains the truth till date. But, this time police decided to stick to their duty and finally arrested the person who has political patronage for years now, said the reports.   

According to the reports, Goa Police arrested the three people from Bangalore from the same premises following the traces of the drugs were found on them. The Shack owner of the Curlies Edwin Nunes was on the police radar for years following the death of Scarlett Keeling in Anjuna in the year 2008 and thereafter many cases of drug overdose took place in the similar vicinity but no arrests were made as the owner had a very strong link with the politicians in the state.

The recent case of the death of two youth from Kerala and Tamil Nadu became the last nail in the coffin for the club owner, and this time even his political fathers could not save him and police arrested the under the NDPS Act, says the report. The reason behind his arrest is said to be the change in political equations in the state which was drastically against his favor.

The local MLA and Water Resources Minister, Vinod Paliyekar had ordered strict probe in the drug peddling cases following the news of the death of two youth in Anjuna. The tourists from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Praveen Sundaram and Nidam Abdulla receptively died of a drug overdose in a Private hospital in Anjuna on Sunday Morning.               

The news of the arrest of the owners of Curlies & Club NYX spread like a fire in the media, as people were under the impression that nobody will ever be able to touch the owner of Curlies, but, all of them proved wrong. The name of the Club NYX though new in this scandal as this club has started its operations recently in Anjuna.

According to the reports, Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Chandan Choudhury confirmed the arrests of Edwin Nunes, owner of Curlies shack, and Rohan Shetty of Club NYX both cafes located in Anjuna, some 20 km from here. “They have been arrested under Section 25 of the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act,” the police officer said, adding that waiters at the Curlies shack were also found with drugs. What will happen next only time will tell meanwhile both the owners are in the police custody. What are your views on this?
