I will not contest this election if not from Panaji claimed Taleigao heavyweight and St. Cruz MLA, Babush Monseratte. “This time Panaji for sure,” Babush told the media, asserting that If elected from Panaji will do the best development of the city. “I need the support of people of Panaji and I assure that I will do the real development of the Panaji city,” he averred before media.

According to the information available from the reliable sources, Babush Monseratte has made up his mind to contest from the Panaji constituency this time, so much so that he made the statement in front of the media that if he does not contest this election from Panaji then he will not contest at all. This sends the clear and loud message out that Babush Monseratte is contesting election from Panaji this time.

With this admission before the media, he has put the full stop to all the speculations about his stand. “The 2017 polls I will contest from Panaji or not at all,” asserted Babush amidst much applause at the meeting held with CCP councillors. The meeting was also attended by the CCP Mayor Surendra Furtado and former Mayor Tony Rodrigues along with party workers and well-wishers of Monserrate camp. “This announcement should shut the mouths of all those spreading rumors about me not contesting from Panaji constituency,” said Mr. Monserrate. He also urged his councillors and supporters to unite for the big battle for the capital city.

He further stated that He always wanted to contest an election against Mr. Manohar Parrikar but it looks like his dream may not get fulfilled this time since Mr. Parrikar is in Delhi holding the position of Defence Minister. “I wish that Delhi government would send him (Parrikar) back to fight state elections so that I can stand against him. It has been my dream to defeat Parrikar, and I have always been confident about defeating him,” he said.

He also told the reason behind his prevailing confidence stating that Parrikar may be much ahead as far as the education is concerned, “But I am the best as far as development is concerned,” he said amidst the huge applaud of the people gathered for the meeting.

According to Mr. Monserrate, the qualification alone does not matters if the person is not capable of carrying out the development. “Qualification is for yourself, but development is for the people,” He said adding that “Parrikar was MLA of Panaji for the last 25 years, but nothing has changed in the city. How a person from Mapusa or somewhere else would have a love for Panaji.” the former education minister said.

Mr. Monseratte boasted that if he is elected from Panaji, he will change the face of city including the development of Azad Maidan in line with Rajghat in Delhi. He also alleged that Panaji MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker was looking after all Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC) dealings, sidelining Sakhali MLA Pramod Sawant, who is the chairman of the corporation.
