Everyone’s heart has always been drawn to beach destinations. After all, who doesn’t enjoy basking in the warm sun on soft sandy beaches with a cool breeze and a view of blue oceans while sipping on fresh juices? Flying to such tranquil locations would not have been a big deal at any other time.

Indians are flocking to the island nation in large numbers to avoid the restrictions imposed by the Covid pandemic. Our very own Bollywood celebrities, who have made this island their videshi Alibaug, are at the helm of the bandwagon.

Visits from India to the Maldives have increased by 50% since last year, with approximately 44,000 Indian tourists visiting the South Asian nation in the first two months of the year. With Bollywood and television stars promoting it with endless vacation photos, it has become the new Goa.

With the loamy bliss bursting at the seams with Bollywood celebrities, it is only fair to argue that a separate award category, if not an entire award show, can be dedicated to photographs taken in the Maldives.

The sky is the limit, from ‘Best pool look,’ ‘Best water baby,’ ‘Best cycling videos,’ to ‘Best reels.’ Taapsee Pannu’s ‘Biggini shoot’ video has already gone viral.

There are many challengers for the ‘Most sunkissed,’ including Janhvi Kapoor, who recently joined the Maldives hype train, and Shraddha Kapoor, who is currently on her third trip to the island in two months. We can’t forget Sara Ali Khan, and how many times she’s been spotted in the country of islands with her brother, Ibrahim.

Who knew breakfast could be so fashionable, check out from Sonakshi Sinha to Kajal Aggarwal?

‘Unofficial dating has always appeared in Bollywood, with celebrities who are clearly dating claiming to be ‘just good friends.’

Kiara Advani travelled to the Maldives with her rumoured beau Siddharth Malhotra, but she did not share any photos of the two of them together.

When it comes to’solo’ vacations, Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani seem to take a lot of them, and oddly, at the same location and time. Shroff’s 2020 Maldives vacation raised the stakes.

Not only Bollywood celebrities have made the Maldives their personal haven. Hina Khan, a TV celebrity, has also taken the Maldives route with her partner and family.

Rithvik Dhanjani, another well-known TV actor, also visited the islands with his co-star Surbhi Jyoti.

The country is clearly not complaining because it is generating significant revenue as a result of our entertainment industry’s pandemic-induced adoration for it. We can now safely say that the Maldives is here to stay on our Instagram newsfeed — regardless of the Covid super surge in Maharashtra — thanks to the travel bubble agreement between India and the Maldives, and comparatively relaxed Covid protocols.
