The Goan Chef Awards is the second edition of a Culinary Extravaganza that has been instituted by the promoter and CEO Mr. Rohan Parish to promote the Goa Cuisine in the state of Goa and world over, which according to him is losing the grounds slowly in Goa itself. The second edition of the Goan Chef Awards that is dedicated to the late Chef Boris Rego who was killed in the 26/11 terrorist attack on the Taj Mahal Hotels in the year 2008.
Boris had joined the Taj Mahal Palace Hotels in the year 2006 as a management trainee in the food production department. The Culinary activity was running in his blood with his father Urbano do Rego being a celebrity chef at Taj Group of Hotels in Goa.
Boris was the second child in a family of three children born on 28th September 1985 in the state of Goa he belonged to the beautiful island called Divar in north Goa. Very humble in nature his smile always attracted people towards him.
On the terrible night of the terrorist attack on Mumbai, the Taj Palace was the major target, Boris sacrificed his life for the sake of others. He risked his life and showed great courage during the attack and protected the guest and colleague till he breathed his last.
The second edition of The Goan Chef Awards (previously known as Goan Chef Challenge) kicked off at IHM, Porvorim, Goa. This edition has been sponsored by some of the most renowned names in the Food & Beverage industry and has a jury comprising of some leading chefs across India.
The exquisite journey of gourmands took place over 6 days and saw over 175 expert teams display exceptional skill. The delicious competition panned out conquering diverse cuisines and categories are it deserts or chicken while giving some of the most celebrated chefs, restaurants and hotels a platform to showcase work of utmost finesse. It was truly an epicurean delight.
The list of nominations is mentioned here of Goan Chef Awards which will be followed by the grand felicitation of the culinary kings with a lavish awards night on the 28th of August, 2016 at Park Hyatt, Goa.
Says CEO OF GOAN CHEF AWARDS Chef Rohan Parish, “The pulse is about to go up a few notches. The intensity and talent on display throughout the week were commendable. It is a competition worthy of crowning the best chefs in the state.”
According to Mr. Rohan, around 178 participants from all the leading hotels and free standing restaurants from Goa took part in the 6-day culinary extravaganza at IHM (Institute of Hotel Management) in Porvorim.
