The recent attack on the tiatrist Conception de Tuem has amounted into the disgrace of Tiart fraternity. The TAG had condemned the act of assault in the meeting held on Wednesday. In the meeting, the decision has been taken collectively that the songs and script will be self-censored and the Tiatrist will refrain from doing the personal attacks on others. [su_expand more_text=”READ MORE” less_text=” ” height=”0″ hide_less=”yes” link_style=”button” link_align=”center”] The assault on Tiatrist Conception de Tuem by the wife another Tiatrist Francis de Tuem has brought an utter disgrace to the entire Tiatr fraternity of Goa and to condemn this act, the TAG (Tiatr Academy of Goa) had summoned an urgent meeting on Wednesday which was attended by all the directors and stakeholders from the Tiatr fraternity of Goa.
Tiatrist Francis de Tuem had apologized before the media for the act of his wife saying that “My wife is a housewife and she is not tiatrist and her name should not have been used by the tiatrist Conception in his tiatr. I feel that her act was spontaneous and it happened out of anger. I apologize for her improper act with my folded hands. I feel that she made a big mistake by climbing on the stage and slapping the performing tiatrist. According to me, she should not have done that. I once again apologize to all the people and my supporters.”
Subsequent to this meeting Tiatrist Conception de Tuem spoke with media and alleged that he was not given an opportunity to put his point across and he had left with no option but to remain silent over the issue. He also alleged that TAG did not take up the issue of his assault in the meeting. “Many of my supporters asked me as why I did not raise the issue in the meeting. I could not do it since they (TAG) did not allow me to speak anything personal. They told us that speak only on the future of Tiatr. I could not express myself as how to stage the Tiatr without taking the names. They did not even bother to raise the issue of my assault in the meeting,” said Conception adding that “I have decided that I will not modify or change my KANTAR (Konkani Song) and will continue to sing the same.”
Meanwhile, the St. Andre legislature and Chairman of Kala Academy told the media that he feels good about the decision of TAG to censor the Tiatr but they have to make sure that the voice of Tiar is not suppressed under the guise of censorship. “If TAG has decided to impose the censorship on them then it is a good sign. Actually, I am against any kind of censorship on expression. But when the thing goes out of the hand then it is very much necessary. We see many times Tiatrist cross their limits and starts personal attacks which according to me is not a healthy practice,” he said adding that “Tiatrist started using this platform to settle their personal scores, to criticize the government, politicians & public figures. It needed to stop somewhere and that TAG is involved into it then I welcome their move.”
According to Mr. Wagh tiatr is a product of creative expression and the government should not interfere into this since Tiatr, Drama or Music all are the products of creative expressions and where there is a creativity the censorship should not be there.
There is no doubt that what Mr. Wagh is saying is correct. The freedom of expression should not be suppressed and people should take the criticism sportingly. Assaulting another artist just because you do not like him or his songs will only lead to getting yourself assaulted in the future. There is always a reaction to your action hence one need to decide what he wants in future from his act in the present. Tiatr is the only creative recognition that has left for Goans and if they start destroying it due to their personal enmity then it will be their big loss.
