He believes that these 29,000 students, studying in Church-run schools, would have gone to Marathi medium schools and it would have been difficult for the government to accommodate them in other schools.

Earlier, Parrikar was justifying his decision to continue grants to Church-run schools so as to protect teachers of Archdiocesan Board of Education, who according to him may not be paid well if grants are removed.

Now, the previous justification has changed to, Konkani or Marathi mediums have no good quality schools in Goa and that is the reason BJP government continuing grants to Church-run schools.

Parrikar said that, “The real issue is of good schools and quality education. Because there are no good schools in Konkani or Marathi, people send their children to English medium schools.”

Parrikar also advised local politicians including Chief Minister Parsekar to concentrate more on improving the quality of the government schools. He also insisted that the parents should send their children to Konkani and Marathi schools only when the schools are providing the quality education.

Parrikar also said blaming one of the publication that this publication intentionally creating rift between the BJP and RSS in the state. He also alleged that this publication initially started the controversy in Goa over the Medium of Instruction issue.
