It looks like the BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) is unlikely to appoint a new chief minister in Goa to replace ailing Manohar Parrikar, sources said after Amit Shah met up with delegates to take stock of the situation threat to the BJP led government in the state the alliance is intact and strong.

Meanwhile the senior Congress leader and party spokesperson Ramakant Khalap said with three ministers including Parrikar, 62, who is suffering from a pancreatic ailment, has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi for treatment in hospital, the ruling coalition is short of the halfway mark, which makes the governor to call the single largest party to form the government.

BJP does not seem to be leaving any stone unturned and they have called ten maulanas from various mosques in Goa to conducted Quran Khawani, a ritualistic reading of the Quran, for quick recovery of ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, an official said on Thursday. Shaikh Jina, BJP’s minority morcha president has mentioned that Parrikar has resolved many issues related to the Muslim community in Goa.

“He has resolved several outstanding issues related to our community which includes making Goa the embarkation point for Haj travel, the building of a Haj House in the education sector,” Jina said. Also added that the maulanas were called from all over Goa to conduct the Quran Khawani, which invokes the good grace of Allah, at the BJP’s South Goa headquarters to pray for the quick recovery of our Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

Several public prayers in temples and the central church in the state capital of Panaji were also conducted ever since Parrikar was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer in February.

Since Parrikar being in hospital due to this illness, the  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies are now contemplating as to having an alternative leader to replace the ailing Chief Minister.

Ram Lal, Organisational Sectary of BJP said the alliance partners have stated that they will agree to any political decision taken by the BJP. Also adding that he had met Shah at his resident on Wednesday to discuss at length the current situation of the state.

“The effective strength of the House today is 37, of which one is Speaker and he has no right to vote if there is a motion for trust,” he said.

Appointing a new chief minister would mean that the government would have to face a floor test to prove its majority in the assembly, which could prove to be a challenging task. The Congress, which is the single-largest party with 16 MLAs, has already staked claim to form the government in the coastal state. Congress has claimed that it has the support of over 21 legislators in the 40-member Assembly, giving it enough strength to form the government in the state,  led by Kavlekar, had met Governor Mridula Sinha to demand a floor test. Kavlekar said his party was waiting for a response from the governor, who had assured them that she would get back on the issue in three-four days.

The opposition Congress has claimed that it has the support of 21 legislators in the 40 member Assembly giving it enough strength to form the government in the state if given a green signal. Whereas the BJP has 14 legislators of its own which consists up of allies like the Goa Forward Party (GFP) and the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), who have three MLA’s each.

Looking at this scenario who do you think will form the next government?
