The police and system seem don’t take the cognisance of the video footages or the public remarks on the social media as the Sarpanch who was involved in the assault of a lady have not yet arrested by the police and claims that he is not sure if he had assaulted the lady or not. meanwhile, the police claim that they have booked the cross-complaints of both the parties and investigation is underway.

It may be recalled that in the last week the video of Velim Sarpanch assaulting a lady and her daughter went viral on the social media and it had invited a huge criticism from the masses. People wanted the culprit to be punished with the severe imprisonment for raising the hands on a lady. According to the sources, the incident had been recorded on 6th April wherein the sarpanch was seen hitting the duo with fists and blows.

According to the victim Ursula Soares, this assault was the outcome of a case filed by her in the court in the year 2015 against one of the close kin of Sarpanch. “I had filed a case in the High Court against the Sarpanch’s sister-in-law for carrying out an illegal construction work and the assault is an outcome of the same,” she said. However, the Sarpanch says that he is not sure if he hit the lady or not as he was irritated by the lady’s behavior in the office.

URSULA WAS ASSAULTED BY VELIM SARPANCH

Ursula Soares told the local TV channel that the Sarpanch hit her with fists and blows. “He just came and hit on my face with a punch due to which I lost half of my teeth and I have bruises on my eye and there were cuts on my lips,” she said adding that this is not the first time that Sarpanch had assaulted her. “This is not the first time he assaulted me, in the year 2015 in a Gram Sabha he (Sarpanch) had outraged my modesty,” said Ursula.

The victim Ursula stated that the Sarpanch had assaulted her without any fault of her to save his and his sister in law’s skin. “He wanted to save his and her skin and that is why he assaulted me. I did not abuse him if I had to do that the I would have gone to his cabin instead. I went to secretary’s cabin and he came there and assaulted me,” she said.

VELIM SARPANCH SAYS HE IS NOT SURE IF HE HAD HOT THAT LADY AS HE WAS VERY UPSET

Meanwhile, the Goa Police, as usual, playing the safe role and saying that the investigation is in progress. “We have received the complaint in this regards and the offense had been registered and the investigation is in progress.” The police also said the both the parties have made cross complaints against each other and they have not made any arrests as yet.

Is Goa becoming like Bihar? Why are people settling down their scores by attacking each other? and why police prefer to remain neutral in such cases? Here in this case instead of doing the investigations the police should have arrested the culprit and set an example in the society and this could have also resulted into avoiding such incidents in the future.

Raising hands on ladies is a crime in itself. The cross-complaint seems to be the easiest way out from the crimes like these. What do you think about this case? Are your of the opinion that the culprit should be punished severely in this case?  What trend is the police setting before the society by not initiating any severe action against the victim? Please do share your valuable comments on this serious issue.
