It is not only rash driving that leads to an accident in Goa but drivers under the influence of alcohol are also the main reason to cause an accident, risking their own lives and also that of others on the road. In yet another incident, two accidents reported in Vasco and Cortalim-Goa on Saturday afternoon resulted in the paralyzing of vehicular traffic for nearly three hours. Luckily, there were no reports of any casualties.
According to a source, in the first incident, a car brushed the KTCL bus while it was heading towards Vasco from Cortalim at Sancoale. The accident resulted in a massive traffic jam at Vasco Cortalim highway.
In another accident, which was reported at Vaddem, a truck rammed into a car while it was heading towards Vasco from Chicalim. According to the information, the truck driver was found under the influence of alcohol. The same truck earlier also missed a Honda Activa Scooter rider who had a narrow escape.
Despite efforts being made by the traffic police in Goa to educate drivers on safety measures and inculcate principles of road safety, the number of accidents has not decreased. Every week there is an increase in the number of accidents reported in the newspapers and the main reason for this is, over speeding, overtaking, rash driving, driving without wearing a helmet and now drunk driving.
Even after strict rules and punishments, it seems that nothing has brought a change. Accidents are increasing and getting worst day by day in Goa, which is leading to a huge loss to the families of the victims.
