In one of the most shocking incident, a man from UP was caught red-handed by the people on Saturday while he was in the process of kidnapping a six-year-old girl.  According to the sources, the minor girl who was standing outside the Bank of India ATM situated at Swatantra Path in Vasco Da Gama, while her father apparently went inside to withdraw the cash.

The story goes like this, the minor girl and her father came to market at around 11 am and while the father was about to enter the ATM to withdraw some cash, the accused Uttam Chand Bhind saw this opportunity and pulled the girl, but soon the girl raised an alarm and people gathered around the vicinity caught hold of the accused.

Later the accused was tied to a pole by the locals and beaten before handing him over to the police, said the sources. The news of the kidnapping bid spread throughout the port town and surrounding areas via social media. Rumours spread of the accused saying that he had five accomplices.

Meanwhile, the Mormugao DySP Sunita Sawant had put to an end all the speculations about the rumours of a team of kidnappers roaming around the city, and released the statement saying that “There is no need to worry. Investigations are being carried out. The man seems to be making irrelevant statements and there is a question about the stability of his mental state.”

The accused’s medical examination was carried out. He suffered a black eye and a swollen face due to the beating. Bind is said to be staying with his son in Gandhinagar, Vasco. His wife lives with their other son in UP.  Vasco police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code and Goa Children’s Act.

The crime is rising within state due to no governance and lack of attention of the home department in the day to day affairs. The recent case of two people killing a hotelier in Candolim with swords is one such example of the criminal having no fear of police and system. This way the people will lose their faith in the existing government and there is a need for the ruling party to start taking things seriously and implement the law and order situation in the state.
