Setting the ball rolling for timely execution and delivery of series of six OPVs being built by GSL for Indian Coast Guard, unslipping of third CG OPV (GSL YD 1219) was held at GSL on 22nd December 2014.

Smt. Sunanda Gosavi, senior most employee of GSL performed the honours for unslipping the vessel in distinguished presence of Shri Milind Naik, Hon’ble Minister of Power, Information & Publicity, Govt. of Goa and RAdm Shekhar Mital, NM, IN (Retd) CMD GSL. Senior officials of Coast Guard and GSL were also present on the occasion.

‘Unslipping’ is an operational process, where the vessel tastes water for the first time. The vessel is taken through slipway from land to the water. Significantly, the unslipping of third OPV, designed in-house and built by GSL for Indian Coast Guard comes on the heels of launching of “ICGS Samarth” – first of the series of six OPVs held at GSL on 26th November 2014.

RAdm (Retd) Shekhar Mital, NM CMD GSL in his message said “The ongoing construction of six OPVs for Coast Guard is in full swing and we expect to launch Second  OPV  by end Jan 2015 . The first vessel will be ready for delivery as per schedule by Oct 15 and all six vessels will be delivered by Nov 17. This will further reinforce our unwavering commitment for timely delivery of ships”.

These vessels for the Indian Coast Guard are based on in- house design of Goa Shipyard Ltd. When commissioned, these vessels will be the most advanced Patrol Vessels in service with the Indian Coast Guard.
