IT IS OFTEN SEEN THAT TOURIST GET CARRIED AWAY WITH THE BEAUTY AND AWE OF GOA’S BEACHES, RESULTING IN THEM IGNORING ALL THE SAFETY WARNINGS DISPLAYED BY THE TOURISM DEPARTMENT ON THE GOAN BEACHES. FROM PAST WEEK DROWNINGS HAVE SEEMINGLY INCREASED, AND MORE SO AT CANDOLIM MAKING US QUESTION, WHERE ARE THE LIFE GUARDS?

On Thursday, early morning two students, from a group of 47 students who had come down to Goa on their vacation trip, unfortunately, drowned while swimming at Candolim beach. The victims are students of Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad.

THE LIFEGUARD SERVICES HIRED BY GOA TOURISM FOR THE SAFETY OF THE TOURISTS

As per reports, a group of 47 students had come down to Goa along with faculty for a study tour. Six of the friends from the group went swimming on Candolim beach at around 03:00 am in the morning.  Further around 03:30 am two students namely Miss Anuja Susan and Mr. Gurram Chenchu said were pulled into the water due to a strong wave. Anuja Susan Paul, age-23 yrs, a resident of Chennai has immediately washed ashore on the beach, she was then immediately shifted to PHC (PUBLIC HEALTH CENTRE) in Candolim where she was declared dead.

After which Police rushed to the spot, conducted panchnama and shifted the body to GMC Bambolim. Further today morning around 09:00 am the second body of the student Gurram Chenchu Sai, age-25 yrs resident of Andra Pradesh was fished out of the sea water.

His body was shifted to GMC for conducting post mortem examination. Families of both the deceased persons have been informed and post mortem examination will be conducted on the dead bodies. Police under the guidance of PI Jivba Dalvi is doing the further investigation of the drowning cases.

These cases raise a big question on the life guards, why hasn’t the government put any strict law into action to prevent any further deaths? Though the negligence cannot be entirely blamed on authorities tourist need to take the warnings into consideration as well. What do you think can be done? Leave your valuable comment.
