In a shocking incident, a Chicalim youth has accused two police sub-inspectors attached to Vasco police station of clicking his naked pictures and threatening to upload it on the web with fake account. Complainant Jackson Caetano Fernandes (21) has also alleged that upon directions of the PSI’s the junior police staff also cut his hair on last Friday. According to the information, the issue of harassment by police reached the general secretary of All India Council of Human rights, liberties and social justice, Goa Chapter Parshuram Shetye after which the victim took bold decision and a formal complaint against the PSIs, Prashant Bhagat and Nehanda Tavares, was lodged before Vasco police on Tuesday wherein the complainant alleged of brutality, besides, physical as well as mental harassment to him by the PSIs due to which the complaint even felt like committing suicide.
“In the last week of the September, my mother gave a call to Vasco police asking them to casually threaten me as I was asking for money from her to start a business of my own. After receiving the complaint, PSI Bhagat along with four staff came to my house and assaulted me, literary dragged me into the PCR like a criminal, assaulted me in the police jeep and PSI Bhagat even spitted in my mouth,” Fernandes said.
As if this was not enough, “on the same day at about 11 pm, the PSI locked me in a cabin used by the PSIs and clicked my nude pictures after forcing me to remove my clothes. After taking pictures, the PSIs even threatened me that, if they received any complaint against me then he would use my photos to blackmail me,” Fernandes said in his complaint.
“Further, on October 27, a complaint form one of my friend’s mother reached to the Vasco police that I failed to pay nine thousand rupees. This case was handled by PSI Nehanda in which Bhagat interfered and told me to get the money the next day or else he would upload my nude pictures on social media site using fake account. Also my mobile phone was taken away by Bhagat and the next day when I went with the money, on the instruction of PSI Nehanda, her junior staff cut my hair,” he said.
“The cruelty shown by police officers cannot be tolerated, if this continues, then, innocent people would suffer and thus we have now decided to take up this issue very aggressively before all authorities concerned to ensure that the culprits are booked and punished,”According to a source, Parshuram Shetye said.
When contacted, PSI Prashant Bhagat and PSI Nehanda Tavares denied the allegations against them. When contacted, DYSP Sucheta Desai, said, “Though I have not seen the complaint, however, the same was informed to me by few reporters and I will surely look into the complaint and do the needful.”
