With an aim to streamline the traffic flow in Mapusa, traffic signals had been installed at the court junction by the transport department in June 2016 had suddenly collapsed today posing the danger to commuters. According to the sources, to ease the traffic congestion in the town, the Mapusa traffic cell had proposed installation of traffic signals but within three and a half month, the signal poll on the main road falls causing a lot of inconvenience for the traffic at around 10 am today. The fall of the traffic signal has created a tensed situation for the commuters and the locals in Mapusa.

This incident occurred at 10 am this morning. In God’s grace, till now no unfortunate incidents have taken place due to the signal pole.” Adding to that he also said, the electricity department is very supportive and has helped to clear the signal poll as soon as possible.
Another local from Mapusa said, there are polls from more than 30 years in Mapusa similarly there are cable wires next to the polls. The municipality is not paying attention to any of these things. Adding to that he also blames the councilors by saying, “these councilors are only filling their pockets. Till now, not even one counselor came to see what’s happening with the poll. The ministers have failed to manage any of these things. At the time of the election, the ministers remember to clean up certain places here in Mapusa.”
The cell had proposed installation of traffic signals at ten points in the municipal jurisdiction that is the Gandhi circle, PWD pedestrian crossing near KTC bus stand, court junction, market junction at Aldona taxi stand and Karaswada junction, Khorlim, Duler, Cunchelim, Tari junctions and housing board area. These signals were installed with a hope that after installation of these signals, the traffic congestion problem in the town will be resolved.
