Criminal activities are on the rise in Goa. In the case of the shootout at Vagator in Goa, Anjuna police arrested the owner of Mehfil bar and restaurant at Calangute Mr. Gajendra Singh in connection with the shooting at former Anjuna panchayat member Surendra Govekar, at Vagator. Along with him, Deputy sarpanch of Anjuna Savio Almeida has also been booked in the case. Contract killers involved into it are yet to be identified by the police.

As reported by TOI Anjuna PI Paresh Naik said that Govekar, in his complaint, stated that he suspected Singh and Almeida as he had filed a number of cases against them over illegal construction. As per the statement, police then booked Singh and Almeida for criminal conspiracy and attempting to murder.

PI Paresh Naik stated that “We arrested Singh late Monday night and are in search of Almeida.”  Naik also notified that Govekar had filed cases against Almeida for acquiring dual citizenship.

The bullet of 9mm has been taken into custody by police On Monday from crime site. The bullet will be sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad to find out the type of gun used in the shooting.

Singh was presented before judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Mapusa and was remanded to police custody of four days.

North Goa superintendent of police Umesh Gaonkar said that as per the investigations it is discovered that the attempt of murder was out of the hatred and hostility towards the victim as the victim had earlier filed cases against Singh and Almeida for illegal construction.

Gaonkar told that “Govekar was attacked by the unidentified assailant as he was leaving the high court, where he had gone to hear a case against the accused.” He also mentioned adding that Singh has an arms license and possesses a revolver too.As told by the police Savio left the state two days prior to the attack. Gaonkar informed that “We have attached the revolver and are trying to establish whether the bullet was fired from it.”

It was around 7.30pm when the Govekar was in his car at Vagator. The incident took place when two motorcycle-borne unidentified attackers fired at Govekar but as he was in a car, fortunately, the bullet hit it instead.
