Gautam Govind Naik, a resident of Loliem, Goa, sustained minor injuries as he was overtaking a tanker that was carrying highly acidic material on Thursday. According to the sources, the tanker was carrying sulphuric acid on its way from Mangalore to Vasco. On the other hand, the BEd student was on his way to Katyayani Baneshwar Vidyalaya school; Canacona, on his two-wheeler. According to the information, a few drops of acid spilled on Naik. Following this, Naik was referred to the local Health Center at Canacona by a local physician. According to the sources, the doctor said that Niak has sustained 10% burn injuries as a result of the incident.

Social activist, Diago D’silva said, “A tanker carrying such explosives must follow some safety precautions.” Adding to that he also said that a major tragedy would have taken place if this incident had to happen in the city or market area. It is known that he also condemned the Police check post for not checking the vehicle.

Vehicles carrying acid from one place to another should strictly follow some precautions or else this might risk a life or many. According to the Canacona Police, it is known that no offense has been registered against the tanker driver till late night but the investigation is on.
