The confusion over the sudden roll-out of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) has reportedly created ‘problems’ for students. A group of students along with their parents hoping to gain admission to the MBBS and BDS courses at Goa Medical College (GMC) and Goa Dental College (GDC) rushed to meet Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar late Wednesday night after Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) changed the procedure for the last round of admissions.

On Wednesday evening, DTE uploaded another notice on its website asking eligible candidates for MBBS and BDS courses to apply along with their NEET scores. Shocked students rushed with their parents to the Chief Minister, who is also the Education Minister.

It is known that many students who are on the GCET waiting list had not answered NEET as the State had assured that all State quota seats, including those transferred from the all India quota, would be filled based on GCET scores.

According to a source, a parent said that the change came after four students went to court seeking that NEET is made the criteria for admission in the last round. The case was withdrawn after an assurance was given by the government that NEET would be made the criteria for admission, the parent said.

This has created anxiety and fear among the students as they may be denied their rightful opportunity to fill the vacant seats as NEET has been made the criteria for admission in the last round. According to the parents, the last minute change is an injustice to the students on the GCET waiting list.

Students and parents have requested that justice is done to those on the GCET waiting list of MBBS and BDS courses in the last round of admissions that will be completed on Friday.
