State approves 2 marinas and 9 other projects worth Rs 1,137 crore

Goa is gearing up for the rapid development taking place in the state. Construction of New Mandovi Bridge, Multi-Level Car Parking with New Jetty, 6 Lane highways across the state, Marinas and Pontoons are few to name. Despite of the state exchequer is getting empty with many bills remains pending of the contractors the state government is floating new tenders for the infrastructure development.

According the sources the Goa investment promotion board has cleared 11 proposals including the setting up of two marinas worth a total of 1,137 crore, said sources. Besides the marinas, which are set to come up at Bambolim and Sancoale, the board has also cleared nine industrial projects. Sources within the board said the marinas would still require environmental clearances before the firms can go ahead with the proposals.

There are two companies mainly Yatch Heaven (Goa) Pvt Ltd has proposed to build a marina at Sancoale in Mormugao taluka and Kargwal Constructions Pvt Ltd intends to build a marina at Nauxim village in Tiswadi taluka. Two days ago, minister for environment, forests and museums Alina Saldanha had said she would oppose any marina construction in Sancoale bay, adding that she intended to declare the zone a heritage site.

The other investments includes Varun Beverages Pvt. Ltd. a Gurgao based beverages company setting up soft drink manufacturing facility in sanguem in south Goa has been given permission to expand and commence operations of a project that requires an investment of 54 crore and which is expected to generate job opportunities for 50 people. Anohter company Cartini India Ltd’s 75 crore-proposal to start operations at Marcaim industrial estate has also been given the green light. Around 800 people are expected to find employment at Cartini’s industry.

FabOxy Laundry Service has also got the approval to initiate its 5.22 crore project, While renowned construction heavy machinery maker Putzmeister Concrete Machines has also got clearance to begin work on its 4.5 crore-project at Verna industrial estate where 25 people are likely to find employment. Barmalt Malting (India)’s 250 crore project at Sanguem has also been approved and is likely to give 250 people employment. The board also cleared the 2 crore-project of Andrew Telecommunications India Pvt Ltd at Verna industrial estate. It is expected to create employment opportunities for 550 people. Around 200 people are also likely to find gainful employment at Chowgule & Co Pvt Ltd which is setting up a plant worth around 9 crore at Arlem. Chowgule forsees taking in around 200 employees. Besides this, the board has cleared the 7.5 crore-project of Ace Hotels & Resorts Pvt Ltd at Quepem. Belladona Plasters Ltd has also got the nod to go ahead with its 30 crore-project at Curti, Ponda.

“We have rejected all proposals where land conversion was required or where the proposals had no land of their own,” a member of the investment promotion board said. The board also rejected a steel plant proposal because it felt that the project would not generate enough employment in the state.
