Normally the accidents take place we always blame the bus or truck drivers but here is the case wherein the negligence of the two-wheeler rider had been captured by the CCTV camera. Negligence of a scooter rider led to his own death. A 26-year-old boy riding a scooter died while the pillion suffered injuries when a BEST bus hit the motorcycle they were riding on, in Sakinaka-Mumbai on 12th October. The incident occurred at around 7.30pm on Khairani Road when the victim Pravin Pujari (26) and his friend Sumit Chandanshive (17) planned to go out for a cup of tea from a nearby hotel. According to the CCTV footage doing rounds on social media shows the bike rider trying to cross the road at full speed without looking out for other vehicles around. Police arrested BEST bus driver Tanaji Kumbhar (41) while another case of rioting and damaging the public property has been registered against seven men related to the victims.
According to the sources, Sakinaka resident Pujari was the eldest of the four brothers while his father died two years ago. He was the earning member in the family. Meanwhile, Chandanshive is undergoing treatment at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar (East). “The incident occurred when the BEST bus hit the two riding on motorcycle. Two BEST buses were damaged after the incident,” said Sakinaka police senior inspector Avinash Dharmadhikari.
The BEST official said that the incidents occurred when the bus was plying on route number 421 — from Ghatkopar to Filterpada. “On Khairani Road, a scooter came in front of the bus and got hit by our vehicle. The rider and pillion fell off the two-wheeler. Soon, a mob assembled and hurled abuses at our driver before pelting stones. Two more buses, plying on the same route, were also pelted with stones,” the official said. The other buses were also plying on the same route but no passenger was injured during the incident.
Kumbhar has been booked under the Indian Penal Code sections for 279 (rash driving), 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others). The BEST has instituted an inquiry into the role of the driver, Kumbhar, who is likely to be placed under suspension, sources said.
The video which is going viral on Facebook and has around 80k views has already been shared more than 1500 times. People are trying to petition so that the innocent driver or the bus is not punished.
