When the parents give an expensive car to their kids then only the sky remains limit for them. There is no control and everyone succumbs to the power of the machine. Something similar seems to have happened here in this case. A speeding Audi Car driven by 21-year-old lad had rammed into two youth walking on the roadside at Farmagudi, Ponda, crushing one to death instantly and another is fighting for his life in GMC. Obviously, nothing much happened to the driver and the car was partially damaged.

According to the sources, two youth 21 and 26 were walking by the side of a road at Farmagudi when the speeding Audi Car driven by a 21-year-old youth had dashed them from behind. One of them died on the spot while the other was shifted to GMC in a critical condition. The impact was so severe that after dashing the pedestrians the car overturned.

One of the eyewitnesses told the media that, the said road junction at the Farmagudi is highly prone to the accidents and people of surrounding areas have requested to authorities to do something about it by placing the speed breakers to control over the speeding vehicles but nothing has been done as yet. “There was another fatal accident at the same spot around 4 months back,” said the eyewitness adding that, “This time another two have lost their life.” He appealed the new government to take some urgent measures to avoid any further life loss.

The vehicle involved in the accident belongs to a businessman from Ponda engaged into the entertainment business, said the sources. He also blamed the college students from the surrounding areas for speeding their vehicles on this road unnecessarily. “There are two colleges in this vicinity and the college kids invariably speed up their vehicles on this road without bothering about the life of innocents. There is a need for stopping this race for death,” he said.

According to the sources, the incident said to have taken place on a Monday morning near the KTC bus stand in Ponda. It was the Holiday and people were busy celebrating Holi. A speeding upmarket luxury car “Audi” bearing registration number GA-07-K-1234  knocked down two pedestrians resulting the death of one Mahadev Kumbhar (30) resident of Ponda and seriously injured Narayan Kumbhar (26) a resident of Curtorim who had been admitted into GMC and presently battling for his life.

The sources in the Ponda police have revealed that the incident occurred at around 9.50 am on Monday, when the speeding Audi car proceeding towards Farmagudi junction via KTC bus stand Ponda dashed against the two pedestrians from behind. One of the pedestrians was crushed to death, while the other was seriously injured. According to police the pedestrians involved in the accident were working as laborers at a construction site and were natives of Karnataka.

The driver of the speeding car has been identified as Omkar Naik (21) a resident of Daag, Ponda. Police said that, at the time of an accident along with the driver, his three friends were in the car. The driver escaped without any injuries, while his three friends sustained minor injuries. Police have detained the driver of the car. PSI Yogesh Mandrekar is investigating the case.

Most of the accident cases go unheard and especially when the victim involved in the accident is an outsider or laborer the possibility of matter getting registered it very rare. Considering the case reached to the court somehow with the efforts of Goa police, the conviction is next to impossible. Rash and negligent driving is a trend which most of the youth follow causing the casualties to the innocent people on the road. There needs to be strict law and punishments in the accident cases until unless that is exercised nothing will change. Please leave your valuable comments and suggestions on this serious issue.
