Goa being a tiny state of India has always being used as the model state for implementing various pilot projects. The EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) was first introduced in Goa and after its successful implementation, the same was used in the rest of country. This time the Goa will be converted into Cashless model state of India thereby the demonetization of currency will have very negligible effects on the economy.

According to the statement made in the media (PTI) by the Former CM and existing RM of India Shri Manohar Parrikar, Goa will be the first cashless society (state) in India. “We all need to provide support to the Prime Minister in his decision. The Prime Minister has insisted on moving towards a cashless society. Goa will be the first State to achieve this goal,” Parrikar said.

Mr. Parrikar was speaking in Vijay Sankalp Rally organized by BJP party in Goa. he welcomed the decision of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that Goa is already on its way to becoming the India’s first cashless society. “This would fulfill a dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is pushing for a cashless society through the demonetization scheme, which is also aimed at curbing the menace of black money,” he said. “Goans are already using ATM Debit and Credit cards in a big way and the Goa will soon be India’s first state with cashless society fulfilling a dream of the Prime Minister,” he added.

Mr. Parrikar was addressing BJP’s Vijay Sankalp rally at Sankhalim village in North Goa and demonetization drive initiated by Narendra Modi was the major agenda of the rally. Mr. Parrikar he said that demonetization has struck hard on the roots of black money that were also instrumental in terror funding. “This is not just a strike on black money but also against terror funding, fake currency and drugs money,” said Mr. Parrikar adding that “We all need to provide support to the Prime Minister in his decision. The Prime Minister has insisted on moving towards a cashless society. Goa will be the first State to achieve this goal.”

He also pointed out that Goa has been following the cashless transactions from the time state government had introduced the Dayanand Social Security Scheme. Parrikar said. “Goa has shown the way in the past when the State Government started disbursing payment under Dayanand Social Security Scheme (a pension plan) through electronic mode directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries. Currently, none of the State Government’s payments are done through cheques. All the payments are through electronic transfers,” Parrikar said.

He said that a smartphone will be turned into a bank with the help of an app called Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and the state government will organize the camps to educate people about the use of the application. “We will also train BJP workers who will educate masses about this facility. This will allow people to move around without carrying cash,” the Minister said.
