Vikat Bhagat an accused of the rape and murder of Irish national Ms. Danielle McLaughlin, from the Liverpool is a seasoned criminal with several criminal cases registered against him in the Canacona police station. According to the sources, he has made some very shocking revelations before the police and according to that, he used to target the foreigner tourists coming to Goa and he also had sexually assaulted the Scottish woman in 2013. The freedom of such type of criminal minds in the society leads to the more severe crimes like rape and murder and the brutal murder of the Irish national Ms. Danielle McLaughlin is the live example of the same.
An escape from the consequences of the crime leads to gives more courage to the criminal, and something similar seems to have happened in the case of the accused Vikat Bhagat. His association with crime began right from the age of 15 when he first did the robbery in Palolem area. Being a juvenile he did not get much severe punishment then but the same lead to his attraction towards the crime world. Later he became expert in robbing the foreigners coming to Goa. Obviously, his main targets were the tourists especially the foreigners as most of them would go back in short time and he would go scot free.

The small crime leads to the bigger one and same happened here, following the small robberies, the accused started getting into the bigger ones and in the year 2008 he robbed one foreigner for over Rs. 160,000 worth of goods. According to the Canacona police, the accused is a history-sheeter and he was convicted in the case of theft in the year 2014. “The accused Bhagat was arrested in March 2014 for targeting foreigners in a string of burglaries in the area. One British holidaymaker revealed a thief had sneaked into their holiday villa through a balcony and taken a laptop, two mobile phones and a portable hard drive worth around £1,620,” said the police sources.
The Canacona police detained the accused Vikat Bhagat after doing investigations into the matter. Later on Bhagat confessed to the crime and he also told the police that besides him three more people were involved in this crime but when police did the investigations they found that Vikat is trying to misguide them as the blood stains found on Vikat Bhagat’s Activa scooter and on his clothes had matched the victim’s blood. Meanwhile, the police had also rounded up few more suspects in this case but nothing concrete had come out from it.
While in the interrogation, the accused Bhagat revealed that he had also raped one Scottish woman in 2013 while she was on her vacation in Goa and was staying at Palolem beach in south Goa. The victim (a Scottish Woman) had made the verbal complaint with Canacona police back in the year 2013 but later on, she left the country without filing the written FIR. This again leads to give more courage the accused, said the sources.
There is one more shocking truth surfaced on the process of the investigation. According to the sources in the Canacona police, the accused was also involved in the drug peddling. He (Bhagat) became close to the victim Danielle since he used to supply the drugs to her friends. “Bhagat and Danielle McLaughlin came close to each other as some of her friends used to buy drugs from him,” said the sources in Canacona police. The Irish victim, Danielle McLaughlin, had told her friend that he was helping her looking for an accommodation in Palolem.
Meanwhile, there are more images that have been exposed to the media and the recent two images the victim Danielle was seen at the Green Park Resort situated at the Palolem beach in Canacona celebrating the Holi festival came up in the media. The photos show the 28-year-old backpacker, originally from Donegal in Ireland, at a party celebrating Holi festival at Green Park resort in Palolem Beach in Canacona area in Goa. It is believed that these two photos were taken an hour before she left the party on a scooter with her alleged killer (source) Danielle left with the accused Vikat Bhagat at around 9.30 pm on Monday night and hours later Danielle’s stripped and battered body was found in a pool of blood in a field in Goa on Tuesday morning.
Later in the day, Canacona police took the accused Vikat Bhagat into police custody after his Activa scooter and clothes were found covered in blood stains at his Canacona home. Danielle’s blood-stained clothes were also discovered in a backpack close to the house. The accused also had injuries that were consistent with being scratched by nails. Danielle McLaughlin, from Buncrana in Ireland, came to Goa on February 23 on her British passport and celebrated the Holi festival at Palolem beach. According to reports, the Irish Embassy in India is closely following up on the murder. Her breast groped at party
A report carried a statement of a friend of Danielle’s who told that a group of men appeared glued to the Irish woman on Monday night when these two pictures were taken. Another holidaymaker, who is only being called Susan to not disclose her identity, told that she was left stunned when one of the men from the group groped her breast. She said, as quoted by a news portal, “One of these guys smiled at me and then came up and groped my breast. I was stunned. I have been coming back to India for some time. It is a beautiful place and people are generally friendly. But I have no faith in the police.”

Her heartbreaking final message
In a Facebook post, Danielle wrote her final message thanking her friends and family for making her the ‘luckiest person’ she knows. The message read, “Thank you to all my friends and family for making a home so special and always looking after me. I am very grateful and the luckiest person I know…Off on another adventure… (sic).”
