In one of the most shocking incidents that took place today morning at Sindhudurg situated on the border of Goa, seven students out of the total 45 ventured into the water have been feared drowned and one professor also lost his life in the incident claims the sources. The students said to have ventured into the sea despite the warnings from the villagers.

Altogether seven students including three girls and four boys along with one professor had drowned in the Vyari Coast Beach situated in Sindhudurg on a Saturday morning. The incident came as a shocker to the people of Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. According to the sources, around 50 students from the Maratha Engineering College Belgaum were on their picnic trip to Sindhudurg situated on the border of Goa.

According to the sources, all the 45 students entered the water at Vyari beach in Sindhudurg out of that 11 students and a professor decided to venture into the deeper water. The villagers warned them about the danger but they apparently did not listen to the locals and dived into the sea water. The sources said that due to the high current of water all of them were pulled into the deep sea and drowned.

The local fishermen managed to save only three out of the total 11 went diving into the deep sea water, said the sources. Out of the eight, the three were girls. Police officials said that the deceased were part of a group comprising teachers and students from the Maratha Engineering College, Belgaum and had come to Vayri for a picnic.                

According to one of the eyewitnesses, who told the police that around 11 to 13 members of the group, including a teacher, entered the waters despite strong waves. They were pulled out by local fishermen and rushed to a nearby hospital where eight of them, seven students and a teacher, were declared ‘brought dead’. Our of the remaining three, one of them being is in a critical condition, officials said.   

According to the Principal of the Maratha Engineering College, Belgaum, the student, and teacher went for the picnic without the permission from the college authorities. According to the sources, the local fishermen tried their best to save all the student despite the fact they (student) did not listen to their warnings but due to the high tide they could manage to save only three out of 11 and the rest were pulled by the high current, said the sources.

The sources said that the Fishermen managed to recover only 3 bodies of students from the sea. The other 5 bodies were recovered in the afternoon with the help of police and team of local authorities. “One girl student, who sustained serious injuries, has been shifted to a local hospital in Malvan area”, said IG Konkan range Prashant Burade.

Immediately on the receipt of the news, the parents of all the students rushed to the spot and the entire area of Sindhudurg was filled with an agony, said the sources.
