The Seniors first is supposed to be the Mantra in Sada sub-Jail. In one such incident that took place in the Sada sub-jail, the senior jail inmate assaulted the junior inmate over the simple issue of using the toilet first. This is the second incident that took place in two months after a Sada sub-jail inmate was assaulted by a prisoner in which the prisoner died later in the hospital while undergoing the treatment. In another episode of lack of law and discipline at Sada sub-jail, an under trial was assaulted by over a half-a dozen of inmates on Thursday. As in the first case, this time too, the victim refused to lodge a complaint against the inmates fearing further assault. [su_expand more_text=”READ MORE” less_text=” ” height=”0″ hide_less=”yes” link_style=”button” link_align=”center”]According to the sources, Riyaz Ibrahim, an inmate of Sada sub-jail, told the Panaji district court that the incident occurred at around 7 am when he was in a queue to the washroom on Thursday morning, suddenly a sudden argument broke out between him and seven other inmates.
The verbal tussle turned physical and before he could realize the consequences of standing up for himself, one of the inmates hit him on his head with a heavy object. Bleeding Ibrahim was rushed to Chicalim Cottage Hospital for treatment and was administered stitches. He was thereafter presented in the court for the hearing.
Understanding the situation in the jail and responding to Ibrahim’s request to shift him, the following harassment in the Sada sub-jail, the court immediately ordered his transfer to Colvale jail. When the Margao police recorded his statement, Ibrahim narrated the details of the incident but declined to lodge any complaint. Sources reported that he feared further harassment at Sada sub-jail if he filed an official complaint. Sources said that a month ago, another inmate succumbed to assault injuries, he suffered at Sada sub-jail.
