The Self Styled Godman who is the accused of raping the 19-year-old girl is absconding at the moment, and one team of Goa Police has left for Karnataka in search of him, said the police sources. According to the reports, a 19-year-old girl from Vasco Da Gama in Goa has accused a Karnataka based “Self-styled Godman” of raping her in a house near Mapusa town.
The victim girl originally belongs to Achra in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra but, currently staying in Vasco Da Gama in Goa. While the accused ‘Godman’ hailing from Karnataka had allegedly raped the victim girl in a secluded place at Mapusa after one of the followers of godman Santosh Kumbhar gave her a lift promising to drop her at her native place in Archa, Sindhudurg.
According to the police, the victim Woman is known to the accused. “She stated that Kumbhar offered her a soft drink on the way which she suspect was laced with some drugs and took her to an unknown house close to Mapusa,” said the police sources adding that “The woman claimed that the godman, who hails from Kundapur town in the neighbouring state, was present in the house along with another person who she identified as Nikhil Chavan.”
The victim woman lodged a complaint in the police station stating that after dropping her to the place at Mapusa, Kumbhar and Chavan left the house. Later the accused Godman raped her and threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter anybody, said the sources. The Vasco Police booked the godman on the charges of rape, unnatural offenses, causing hurt by means of poison, among other charges.
When the media asked police if the woman was a follower of the godman, police responded negatively. The police are waiting for the arrest of the godman to get the answers to all the questions such as if the crime was pre-planned or whether there is an involvement of a conspiracy.
Meanwhile, according to the latest reports, two followers of the godman have been arrested by the Vasco Police on the charges of abetment. The godman who goes with the name of ‘Ravishankar’ is still untraceable.
The Goa police team which had gone to Kundapur in Karnataka, in a search of godman, a day before, have returned empty-handed, said the sources. “Santosh Kumbhar and Nikhil Chavan, two followers of the godman, were arrested last night for abetting the crime,” said inspector Nolasco Raposo of Vasco police station adding that “They were produced before a court immediately after the arrest. The court remanded them to 11-day police custody.” Police registered a case under section 376 of the IPC (rape) and under other relevant sections.
