According to the new developments in the Irish Backpacker, Danielle McLaughlin case, the body of deceased had been sent to the medical centre in Belfast upon the arrival at Dublin airport, where the second autopsy on her body was carried out by the doctors and the reports are expected in the coming days, said the sources.

The first post mortem report revealed the cause of death due to brain hemorrhage and strangulations besides the sexual assault on the victim but in the new reports, the family of Irish backpacker is expecting the more secrets to be revealed which will change the direction of the investigations. Meanwhile, the sources have also revealed that Danielle’s family have changed their legal representatives and now they will be using the services of the legal firm based in Derry. (source)

The Irish backpacker Danielle McLaughlin was on her short vacation to Goa on a British passport where she was allegedly raped and murdered by one her known person Vikat Bhagat whom she had befriended in her last visit to Goa. The accused Bhagat also confessed to the crime before the Goa Police and is already under arrest. The post-mortem carried out on the body of brit national in Goa had revealed the cause of death as strangulations and head damage due to hitting by the blunt object. The post mortem carried out in GMC (Goa Medical College and Hospitals) by the team of three doctors also confirmed the rape. The samples had been sent for the DNA test and reports are awaited.

Danielle McLaughlin had arrived in Goa on 23rd February and she was staying at Arambol in North Goa but later she went to Palolem in South Goa on 13th March to celebrate the Holi with her friends whom she met in her last visits to the state. On arrival in south Goa she stayed in Agonda village close to the famous Palolem beach and next day she left for celebrating the Holi festival with her friends.

On Monday (The Holi Day) Danielle was seen in Palolem roaming with accused Vikat Bhagat whom she had befriended in her last visit to Goa and she used to buy the drugs from him while in Goa. On Monday Danielle celebrated Holi festival at the Festival Valley in Palolem and later in the night she went to the shack at Ourem in Palolem where she was seen last time alive with the suspected accused Vikat Bhagat.

According to the sources, the Irish backpacker Danielle McLaughlin and accused Vikat Bhagat had been drinking together the whole day at various locations in Palolem and after having her final drinks with Bhagat at the shack in Ourem she left with him on his bike to unknown destination and the next day morning her fully naked body was found lying in the field at Devbag around 4km from Palolem beach.

The main accused Vikat Bhagat who is a history-sheeter and has more than dozens of cases pending against him in Canacona police station. The surprising things here is, despite having so many cases registered against him and conviction in one of the case he was moving around scot free with no fear of police. The sources revealed that the accused Bhagat was also involved in the drug peddling.

The mother of deceased Danielle now feels that her daughter should have traveled to Canada instead. Speaking from her home in Buncrana, Andrea (Danielle’s mother) told the Sun Media that “She (Danielle) was hemming and hawing between the two for a while. I was not happy about her going to India this time. I would have preferred her to go to Canada. but she said ‘I don’t want to be anywhere else in the world other than India and that’s where I want to be.” Looking to the coming days, weeks, months and years ahead without Danielle, Andrea said she simply does not know how she is going to cope.“I don’t know, I really don’t know. I don’t know life without Danielle. I don’t know what life is going to be like. I don’t want to even think about it,” she said.

According to Andrea, she just knew that her eldest daughter had died when her friend Louise McMenamin arrived at her home in Marian Park on Tuesday week last. “I knew as soon as I saw her. As soon as she walked in the door I told her. She did not even get the chance to tell me. It feels as if it was a year ago and if it was yesterday. It will only get to sink in when I get to hold her hand.” Andrea also revealed that Danielle had decided not to stay in India but was merely planning to learn how to teach yoga and was due to fly to Canada to begin a new chapter in her life in September.

Meanwhile, THE SECOND post mortem which had been carried out on the body of tragic Danielle McLaughlin at Belfast on Friday evening at the request of Danielle’s family after she was flown into Dublin Airport on Friday morning. The procedure was undertaken in Dublin by the Coroner’s Office and a family source said they were not happy with how the Indian authorities handled the case in Goa. The results of the new post mortem are expected to be made known in the coming days, said the sources in Sun Media.   

According to the family of Danielle, if the findings of the new post mortem are different then this will pose major issues for Danielle’s family. Since the family has also changed their legal representative to appear for the case it looks like they are going to go ahead head on with the case. According to the sources, Danielle’s remains could be back in Co Donegal by Monday or Tuesday at the latest, depending upon how long it takes for the new medical treatment to be carried out and no firm arrangements have yet been made for Danielle’s funeral. Meanwhile, according to the sources, hundreds of people attended a candlelit vigil for the 28-year-old in Buncrana on Tuesday evening last to show solidarity with her family. Danielle’s mother Andrea said she will not fully accept that her daughter is dead until she holds her hand.
