Finally, the Vasco police managed to crack the Seby Patra murder case. The police have arrested two youth from Vasco for their involvement in the murder of Seby Patra. The body Seby Patra, a 45-year-old history-sheeter from Vasco da Gama, was recovered by the Vasco Police in the Month of January 2017 from the Garbage dump in Vaddem Vasco.
When police found the body of Seby, his head smashed beyond recognition to conceal his identity by the accused persons. It had become the challenge for before police to dig out the accused. The police had concluded the preliminary investigation stating that the victim’s body was dumped into the garbage bin after murdering him elsewhere. According to the police, the incident had taken place on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, said the sources.
Based on the report published by the national daily The Times of India, Vasco police arrested two youth from Vasco on the charges of murdering Chicalim resident Seby Patra, 45, on the intervening night of January 26 and 27. Patra was last seen alive at his ancestral house in New Vaddem on the night of January 26. He was found opposite a popular bar in the locale the following morning with his head smashed and clothes ripped.
The police sources have confirmed the arrest of main accused Sameer Shaikh alias Chammu and his associate Prashant alias PK. According to the Vasco police, the main accused Chammu was nabbed in Pune a week ago by the Goa Police team headed by Vasco PSI Diego Gracias in connection with a theft case registered against him at the Vasco police station. Upon being grilled, he also admitted to having murdered Patra by smashing his head with a stone and subsequently dumping his body in the bushes at New Vaddem.
According to Chammu, there was no pre-planning behind the murder of Patra and it just happened in the rage of anger. Chammu told the police that, the reason behind the murder of Patra was a sudden provocation by Patra who had begun verbally abusing him on a fateful night. Chammu, PK, and Patra were under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place, said the sources.
Following the confession of Chammu, police arrested the second accused PK from Vasco. The deceased Patra himself was a history-sheeter and was among those tried in the Parshuram murder case. He was in jail for a year before getting acquitted around 18 months ago. Parshuram was killed at a movie theater in the port town, said the police sources.
