Prabhu, a headmistress of the Government High School, Dona Paula, was riding a two-wheeler and heading towards Miramar side. As said by the police tanker was moving in the same direction. The tanker dashed the two-wheeler due to which she lost control over the vehicle, fell and came under the tanker.

The driver of the tanker has been identified as Gauresh Marathe (37), a resident of Colvale. “The driver attempted to overtake the woman rider when the bike came under the wheels of the tanker. Being in full speed, the tanker ran over the biker causing her death,” a police official said.

The accident blocked traffic for nearly two hours. Witnesses to the accident and passersby ensured that the driver did not flee from the spot and he was handed over to the police.

Prabhu was severely injured in the accident and was immediately rushed to the GMC. However, she was declared brought dead to the hospital.

The Panaji police have registered an offence under Section 304 A (causing death by negligence) and Section 279 (rash driving) of the IPC in connection with the accident and have arrested the tanker driver Gauresh Marathe.

The investigating team is also inquiring whether the blockage of the road near Bal Bhavan owing to digging works could also have resulted in the accident as the riders/drivers look for an alternative route to reach the neighboring roads. [/su_expand]
