Goa Tourism Dept. (South Zone) had organized Sand Sculpting competition on ‘World No Tobacco Day’ at Colva Beach on May 31

The  South Goa office of the  Department of Tourism  organised a  Sand  Sculpting  Competition  on  May 31, 2015 to commemorate  ‘World  No Tobacco Day’. The competition was held at Colva beach in South Goa and was open  to  participants  from the age group of  18 and above. The first prize winner of the Competition was Carmo Rodrigues with Second prize winner Mr. Mahendra B.Naik and Third Prize was given to Ms. Shalini Carneiro. The judges for the competition were Mr. Savio Fernandes, Architect, Mr. Ferdinand Rodrigues and Mr. Raymond Pereira, Artist.

Lots of tourists and local Goans viewed the sculpting after the competition at Colva Beach. Dr. Sachin Shinde, South Goa Collector urged the Goa Tourism Department to organise Sand Sculpting Competition on different themes to encourage this Art Form. He said it will bring out creativity and also spread messages on Health, Environment, Social Issues etc. to the  society The Competition offered a good platform for Sand Sculpting as it is a popular art form giving an opportunity to artists to explore their talent and ability.

3rd Place

Attractive prizes were given to the first three best sand sculptures along with 10 consolation prizes. The  prizes  have been sponsored by  several hotels in Goa. The  first prize winner  was awarded with Rs 15,000, second Rs 10,000  and third  Rs 5,000. An amount of  Rs 2,000 each was awarded  to the consolation  winners. The area allocated  for  each  participant   was 3 mts x 3 mts.

The   competition was organized under the  Chairmanship of the South Goa Collector  and co-ordinated  by Deputy Director  of  Tourism South Zone,  Jose Roque Gracias Flor along with his staff.  The sand sculptures   were displayed for public viewing.
