Panjim, may 25: The South Goa office of the Department of Tourism is organizing a Sand Sculpting Competition on May 31, 2015 to commemorate ‘World No Tobacco Day’. The competition will be held at Colva beach in South Goa and is open to participants from the age group of 18 and above. The participants can sculpt individually or in pairs.
Sand Sculpting is a very popular art form and the clean beaches in Goa offer a good platform for sand sculpting. Attractive prizes will be given to the first three best sand sculptures along with 10 consolation prizes. The prizes have been sponsored by several hotels in Goa. The first prize winner will be awarded Rs 15,000, second Rs 10,000 and third Rs 5,000. An amount of Rs 2,000 each will be awarded to the consolation winners.
The competition is organized under the Chairmanship of the South Goa Collector and co-ordinated by Deputy Director of Tourism South Zone, Jose Gracias. The competition will begin at 9.00 am and will be judged by a panel of experts later in the day. The sand sculptures will be on display for public viewing. The area allocated for each participant will be 3 mts x 3 mts.
