Remo Fernandes, the native of Goa who opted for the Portuguese citizenship by surrendering his Indian passport has been granted the conditional bail by The Children’s Court today in the alleged verbal abuse case of minor girl which was filed on him by the social activist Aires Rodrigues.

According to the complaint filed by social activist Aires Rodrigues, the famous pop star celebrity and Padmashree awardee Remo Fernandes had verbally abused the minor girl Helen who was knocked down by the car driven by his son at Guirim near Mapusa on December 1. The charges had been rebutted by the Remo subsequently by narrating his part of the story to the court through his anticipatory bail application.

The anticipatory bail application was heard by the presiding judge of Children’s Court Vandana Tendulkar on January 5th and it was kept for the order today. The counsel of Remo was positive about getting the conditional bail and the same had been expressed by him in front of the media.

Today the verdict, in this case, was pronounced by the judge granting Remo Fernandes the conditional bail in this case of alleged verbal abuse of the minor girl. According to the conditional bail, he has been instructed to furnish the bail bond of Rs. 50000 and the surety of the similar amount. He has been asked to deposit his passport with the court and not leave the country till the charge sheet filed in this case.  He also instructed to report the Agassaim police station every day for next ten days from 10 am to 1 pm.

The other conditions imposed on Remo includes, not interference with the investigation process and not to pressurize the victim girl and her family members in any manner and not tamper with the evidence.

Rajeev Gomes the lawyer of Remo Fernandes, in this case, told the media that the duration of filing charge sheet can be extended up to three years but everything depends on the police investigation process. “Remo has been instructed to not to leave Goa without the permission of the court,” said the counsel of Remo.

The complainant Adv. Aires Rodrigues had sought the custody of the accused in this case but the court had dismissed his application by granting the bail to Remo. The court also rejected his plea for the cross-examination of the accused in the court by Aires.

The court also rejected the application of Aires for monitoring of the police investigation. The intervention application filed by the other social activists including the RTI activist Kashinath Shetye had also been dismissed by the court.

The pop star Remo had alleged the Aires of defaming him and of trying to extort the money from him in this accident case. He also alleged that he offered the family of the victim the help of Rs. 50000 but the same had been rejected by them for the demand of Rs. 3 Lakh.

The case started with the accident of minor girl on December 1, 2015, and it ended up into the case of verbal abuse and extortion of money. It is the case of celebrity arrogance as alleged by the complainant or it is the case of extortion of money by the victims family? The investigation will begin now and the charge sheet will be filed in this case by the police. Only time will tell which direction this case is leading to. Meanwhile please leave your valuable comments and suggestions on this serious issue.
