RAKSHA MANTRI LAUDES GSL’S MAKE IN INDIA EFFORTS AND EXHORTS FOR TIMELY DELIVERY

Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Manohar Parrikar was accorded a grand welcome by over thousand of enthusiastic officers, employees, workers and union representatives, on his maiden visit to Goa Shipyard Limited today. The youngest of the country’s Defence Shipyards turned into festive atmosphere and emotions ran high as employees and workers thronged the venue to meet their very own leader, as his motorcade entered GSL, the nation’s largest manufacturer and exporter of OPVs.

During the two hour long visit, a presentation was made to Hon’ble Raksha Mantri on the growth trajectory of GSL, it’s in-house design capability, product profile and future potential. Hon’ble Raksha Mantri also visited the R&D centre and was briefed on the new product designs being developed by GSL. Hon’ble Raksha Mantri was conducted around the shipyard by RAdm Shekhar Mital, NM, IN (Retd), CMD GSL and apprised of the ongoing series construction of OPVs being built for Indian Coast Guard and for export market. Hon’ble Raksha Mantri was also shown massive infrastructure augmentation undertaken for MCMV project.

Addressing an impressive gathering at a felicitation ceremony, Hon’ble Raksha Mantri lauded the shipyard for its unique in-house design capability and on time delivery. Shri Parrikar said “GSL has a strong R&D orientation which keeps it ahead of other shipyard in the country. With ‘Make in India’  focus of the present Govt, it will ensure that order book of the efficient shipyard like GSL remains full, so that capacities created at huge government cost are fully utilized”.  He exhorted GSL employees and workers to work towards enhancing the productivity of the shipyard, and ensure quality ships are delivered on time.

CMD in his address said “Relationship between GSL and Goa is like honey and milk. More the GSL grows; more are the benefits which will accrue to the people of Goa.” He reiterated GSL’s commitment to the cause of nation and people of Goa. Shri Narendra Sawaikar, Hon’ble MP LS (South Goa), Shri Milind Naik, Minister Goa State, Smt. Alina Saldanha, Minister Goa State and Shri Carlos Almeida, MLA, Vasco were also present on the occasion.

On the occasion Hon’ble Raksha Mantri commissioned a State-of-the-art Mobile Dental Van, a CSR initiative of GSL for providing dental care to the community at their door step in the remote areas of Goa. The dignitaries also visited CSR exhibition stalls, exhibiting various CSR projects being undertaken by shipyards in all parts of the state, enhancing the prosperity of rural folk.
